SS20 Sweats

We’re just starting to get the first tastes of Spring here in NYC and although it will continue to heat up, there will always be a need for go-to sweats. We’ve continued our hoodie and crewneck sweat program in Canada, and added a new garment dyed 3/4 zip style to round it out.

This may be obvious for a lot of people but we’d like to explain the difference between the quality of fabric we use on our Fall Winter Fleece styles versus the new Spring Summer French Terry that has been used on all of our Crewneck Sweatshirt and Hooded Sweatshirt styles.

Cotton Fleece, not to be confused with Polyester Fleece, has a flat face-side of the fabric. The backside of the fabric gets a heavy brushing which is what gives it a fleecy soft pile texture. We prefer wearing fleece in the winter seasons because it’s a superior insulating layer in comparison to its sibling, French Terry. French Terry has a loop-back backside of the fabric, it’s similar to the pile that you’ll find on the terry cloth towel in your washroom. The loop-back facing side of the fabric breaths better in the summer months because it allows moisture and humidity to either be absorbed or released through the fabric far better than fleece.

All SS20 sweatshirt styles use the same yarn, and North American grown cotton. It's just made into a different end product up in Canada.

The Baskerville crewneck sweatshirt artwork continues our tradition of featuring a favorite font that references the inspiration behind the collection. When thinking of collegiate sports teams and their staff, we remembered the timeless The Game hats of our youth. The classic 3 bar design with a serif font will always hold a special place in our hearts. Baskerville offered the perfect choice as it’s often used in book design and has a good balance between thick and thin strokes. Hoodies feature the core logotype embroidery which we’ve moved from the standard left chest to just above the belly pocket tunnel. A little seasonal touch to mix things up.

The SS20 3/4 Zip sweatshirt is a new versatile cut and sew knit style. It features a locking YKK Vislon zipper at the center front neck and cotton herringbone accent taping around the chest and neck area. The fabric has a soft hand and appearance due to garment dyeing. Both color ways have a smoother hand in comparison to the made in Canada crewneck and hooded sweatshirt styles.

Using a similar, but not the same French Terry as our Crewneck and Hooded Sweatshirt styles from SS20, the 3/4 Zip utilizes combed long staple cotton instead of the short staple rough hand cotton that we use on our core cut and sew knit product. The main reason for the different fabric quality is because combed cotton is more readily available and is native to the country we produced the 3/4 zips in. It has come up before in conversations with people who wear Adsum, one is not better than the other in our opinion. To us it’s comparing apples to oranges.

Sweats aren’t meant to be precious, but they should be well made so you can beat them up and have them last. These will do the job.
