Camp Hero Shorts
Camp Hero is a weird place. It sits at the very end of the Long Island in Montauk and was commissioned by the US Army in 1942 as a coastal defense station disguised as a fishing village. It inspired elements of the creative direction of SS16, and took the naming convention for one of the first pieces of clothing we ever designed, the Camp Hero Short.
The Camp Hero Shorts are based on a classic volley short design. The inseam is longer than our Site Short with a more narrow leg opening which is typical of the volley design and makes it less of a baggy wide leg swim trunk. It is designed to function as an active short but also a swim short because of quick dry elements of the four way stretch main body fabric and every pocket has a generous mesh drainage system.
On the back of the short you will find a yoke with cut lines that are similar to a 5 pocket jean. The yoke has two snap closure welt pockets that integrate to the seam that runs across the top half of the backside of the short. Besides swimming we use the Camp Hero Short as a daily runner and take it out on the soccer field as well because of how lightweight and highly breathable it is. A reflective heat transfer logo hit replaces the original embroidery this season for night visibility.
Welcome back, Camp Hero Short. Images from this post were taken at the East River Park on Monday, August 2nd.
